Pride

04. City & Community

Gainesville is evolving into a destination for visitors from the metroplex and surrounding areas. Let's promote the positive and show our pride by putting our best face forward as Gainesville continues to grow.

Pride in our City

I see a city that welcomes visitors to our beautiful historic downtown and neighborhood.  A city that welcomes the Medal of Honor Recipients each year.  A city that hosts events in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr.  A city that hosts a wonderful Christmas holiday parade.  A city that hosts a multitude of non-profit benefits.  A city with a variety of charming boutiques and restaurants.  A city that hosts downtown events including the Margarita Crawl, Wine Tasting events, Ladies Night's Out, Summer Sounds, and so much more!  Many of these events are family oriented and free to attend - this welcoming spirit can be enjoyed by everyone!

We are a giving and caring city evidenced by the numerous acts of kindness and community support that occurs here everyday.  We have a lot to be proud of!

Pride in Ward 5

How can we demonstrate pride in Ward 5?

I think that is accomplished by adopting a caring attitude - surroundings matter and affect how people perceive themselves and their neighborhood. Small efforts can bring big results and tend to have a impact on what others choose to do as well.

Simple actions express pride - taking care of our homes and outdoor spaces, respecting our neighbors, keeping our public spaces and parks litter free, supporting local businesses, and lending a helping hand to a neighbor in need.  Pride can also be demonstrated by civic involvement - attend a city council meeting or watch online, communicate with your city council representative, vote during elections, and most importantly be an advocate for the change you want to see in Ward 5.

All neighborhoods and wards have assets and challenges.  I think a large part of the focus needs to be on what's working but we also have to be open to discussing challenges and what needs improvement.  I'm listening so please pass along your opinions and let's see what we can accomplish together.

Pride In Our Approach

We have a lot to be proud of as our charming city continues to grow. We need to put forth a positive attitude - we have to "walk the walk" and "talk the talk."

The negativity that sometimes pervades social media needs to take a back seat to those of us who approach things in a different way.  Blaming others, sharing misinformation, fueling discord among neighbors is not productive!  Find out the facts before you jump onto the negative narrative - not everything you read online is the truth, so be the one to seek it out.

Residents of Ward 5 can choose to be a positive force and embody that attitude - pride in place is contagious so let's share it!
